Can dermal fillers make you look younger without surgery?

Looking older than you feel?  You’re not alone! Whilst we cannot halt the ageing process, we don’t have to put up with tired, wrinkled skin.  Surgical procedures such as facelifts, brow lifts and treatments for the neck and eye areas are super-effective, long-lasting ways to get back your youthful looks.  However, we appreciate that surgery is a big step, and not for everyone, which is why we offer a range of non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections too.  These treatments can also be highly effective in rejuvenating tired looks but are not as long-lasting as surgery so usually need to be repeated if you are to maintain results.

We see hundreds of non-surgical clients each year.  And whilst these clients are not undergoing traditional surgery, they are still looked after by one of our highly experienced consultant plastic surgeons.  This, we believe, makes all the difference to the results you can get with non-surgical treatments, plus it’s reassuring to know that you’re in the safe hands of an experienced medical professional.

What are your options?

Both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are great methods for getting rid of the lines and wrinkles which inevitably begin to form as we age.

Anti-wrinkle injections

With anti-wrinkle injections, a tiny amount of Botulinum toxin is injected into the muscles that cause wrinkles.  This temporarily prevents never signals from reaching the muscle which means the muscle relaxes and the lines become smoother.  This treatment is safe and effective when carried out by a trained professional – our specialist surgeon, Mr Christopher Jones, has significant experience in this area.  Key to successful treatment lies in judging the best sites for the injections and using the optimal amount of material – not too little, not too much.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers work in the same way and can be highly effective in treating deeper lines and plumping areas of the face, such as the chin and cheeks, to replace the volume that is lost as we age.  Commonly, we use dermal fillers to smooth out the ingrained lines which can appear around the mouth and nose area.

An easy option

One of the benefits of non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections is that they’re carried out on a day patient basis at our clinic at the The Pines Hospital Manchester, so you won’t have to stay in hospital overnight.  You can return to your normal daily activities as soon as your treatment is over, and there is no scarring. No-one else need know you’ve had dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections – hopefully, they will simply comment on how well you look!

Being aware of the risks

There are, of course, risks involved in any treatment, and you should be aware of these before you decide whether to go ahead.  With dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, the main side-effect is a localised reaction at the injection sites, but this is rare. The benefit of coming to Manchester Plastic Surgery for non-surgical treatments is that you will be looked after throughout by one of our experienced plastic surgeons.  Currently, anyone can set up a shop and offer dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, there is no regulation or legal protection. Whilst there are plans to change the law so that treatment can only be administered by a medically qualified professional, this is not yet in place.  So, to de-risk your treatment and to ensure the best possible outcome, it is best to choose a practice such as Manchester Plastic Surgery for your treatment.

The first step

When you attend your initial consultation, you’ll be seen by Mr Christopher Jones, our surgeon who will carry out your treatment.  This enables Mr Jones to assess your skin and face and advise the best approach to treatment. It’s also a fantastic chance for you to ask questions about any aspect of treatment, so you can make an informed decision about whether dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections are right for you.
