How effective is a lower facelift?

Ageing happens to all of us, and unless someone invents a time machine in our lifetime, there’s not a lot that you can do to stop it!

If you find that the skin around your lower face is looking a little worse for wear, is sagging or jowls are beginning to appear, then you may wish to find out more about a lower face lift procedure which can be highly effective in tightening up ageing skin and giving you back your confidence. Having excess skin or sagging on the lower region of the face and neck can often be unsightly and removing it may well be easier than you think.

6 Common Facelift Myths

What is a lower facelift?

When considering facial plastic surgery, it’s important to understand your options so that you know which treatment will suit you best.  Types of facelift include a mini facelift, an extended face and necklift and a lower facelift, also known as a standard face and neck lift.

The lower face lift mainly focuses on the lower section of the face, working at tightening the skin surrounding the jawline and chin and cheeks – skin that traditionally loosens and becomes more saggy with age. The procedure is particularly effective if you have a large amount of elasticity in your skin – the skin around your lower face and neck is likely to be lax, and you may also have large amounts of excess skin around the neck.

The procedure will use incisions near the ear to remove excess fat and to smooth the skin.  Scars will be hidden around the ear and within the hairline, so no-one need know you have had surgery.  The lower facelift is often accompanied by liposuction or open removal of fat, and sometimes it may be necessary to tighten the neck muscles under the chin.

We will provide tailored advice to support a good recovery from your lower facelift procedure.  Of course, you will need to take it easy in the immediate aftermath of surgery.  It takes a few weeks, sometimes a few months, for the skin to settle and heal and for your results to be fully realised.
