Is a non-surgical facelift as effective as a surgical facelift?

One of the quickest and easiest ways to turn back the signs of ageing is with our facial rejuvenation treatments.

However, when considering facial rejuvenation treatment, it can be hard to know which route is best for you. There are a number of options, both surgical and non-surgical - so how do you know which one will be the most effective for you?

Here at Manchester Plastic surgery, Mr Christopher Jones, is an expert on all facial treatments, both surgical and non-surgical. At your consultation, he will discuss your main concerns and areas you would like to target, to give you honest advice about which treatment will be best to give you the results you’ve always wanted.

Non-surgical treatments

The two non-surgical facial treatments offered by our surgeons at MPS are dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. Both of these are minimally invasive treatments, in which carefully administered injections into targeted areas of the face can reduce the appearance of fine lines and loss of fullness, to refresh the youthful appearance of the face.

Anti-wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections, are used to help restore a younger, fresher look to the face. They are suitable for men and women of all ages, though they are usually most effective in the 25 to 70 age group.

We typically recommend anti-wrinkle injections to patients who are concerned with crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes, horizontal lines on the forehead, and vertical lines between the eyebrows.

Like dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections don’t involve any surgery or scarring, and effects can be seen almost immediately. The treatment can take as little as 20 minutes, depending on the severity and targeted areas, and effects will typically last for three to four months, but with repeated treatments, the relaxed and softened effects will last up to six or seven months.

Mr Jones has carried out thousands treatments and has an excellent track record in getting great results. If you would like to explore the difference that anti-wrinkle injections could make for you, please complete the form below to arrange your consultation.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers (Facial Fillers Manchester (Cheek Fillers) | Manchester Plastic Surgery) are most commonly used to treat the naso-labial folds (lines extending out between the mouth and nose) and vertical lines around the mouth. They are also commonly used to contour the cheeks and chin, replacing volume loss, which is often associated with middle-age facial ageing.

We usually recommend dermal fillers to people concerned with moderate to severe wrinkles and fine lines. Dermal fillers usually take around 30-40 minutes to administer and the effects are immediately visible, looking their best after 48-72 hours.

The dermal filler will eventually be broken down and absorbed by the body, so further treatments may be required after the initial appointment to maintain the effect, dependent on the type of filler we use and the treatment area. If you decide not to return for further treatment, wrinkles and lines will slowly return to their previous appearance - though they will be no worse than before the treatment.

Surgical treatments

A surgical facelift is the most permanent treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin; all common physical signs of ageing. A facelift can help you to regain a more youthful appearance by removing jowls, loose skin, and crow’s feet, as well as smoothing out the deep lines which usually appear around the mouth and nose and on the forehead.

Facelifts are suitable for both men and women of all ages. We offer three different types:

  • A mini facelift is the least invasive and only involves small incisions. We usually recommend this for patients who would like to address the jawline, cheek, and upper neck or chin.
  • A face and neck lift is also concentrated primarily on the lower third of the face but includes slightly extended incisions which allow for further access to the space beneath the chin and jawline.
  • The extended facelift is the most comprehensive of all facial rejuvenation treatments, allowing access to the lower third of the face and neck as well as the temporal region. These larger incisions give surgeons the ability to target the lateral brow, crow’s feet, and the upper cheeks. This is the most attractive option for older patients as it targets the entire face.

A surgical facelift has more long-lasting results than non-surgical treatments, though both can help to effectively fight signs of ageing and loss of fullness in the skin.

For those who are concerned with jowls and loose, sagging skin, a surgical facelift is the only effective way to combat these signs of ageing. However, for patients who are self-conscious about wrinkles or fine lines, botox and dermal fillers are great options if you want to avoid having surgery.
