Keeping You Safe At MPS: Our COVID-19 Protocol

Your cosmetic surgery journey with Manchester Plastic Surgery may mean that your procedure is due to take place within the next few months. Here at Manchester Plastic Surgery, we know that many of our patients feel concerned about the risks of COVID-19 and having surgery during this difficult period. With new guidelines and restrictions in place to combat the spread of the virus COVID-19, this can be a confusing and perhaps even nerve-wracking time to undergo a surgical procedure.

Before you continue with your cosmetic surgery journey with us, it is important to us that you feel as comfortable, confident and safe as possible. That’s why our experts are taking every precaution to ensure that our procedures and consultations are kept COVID-safe environments - so that you know you’re in the best possible hands.

Online Consultations

From the period of the UK’s initial lockdown in March 2020,  Manchester Plastic Surgery closed its physical doors in The Spire, Manchester, but continued to offer support to both existing and prospective patients through our Zoom consultations.Through adapting our practice to meet these online requirements and taking steps to plan the reopening of a COVID-safe surgery, our clinic was able to open almost as normal following the UK’s guideline relaxations in late 2020.

Our New Protocols At Manchester Plastic Surgery

Manchester Plastic Surgery is pleased to state that we are now able to offer the full in-clinic service from 1st January 2020. This will mark a complete return to in-person clinics, which we have been reintroducing for our clients over a period of several months.

Of course, given the current climate, there have been necessary alterations to the practice and patient experience, which have been implemented in order to maintain patient and clinician safety. Read on to find out about the safety protocols you can expect, as a patient at Manchester Plastic Surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Screening for COVID-19

Prior to your in-person consultation, (both preoperatively and postoperatively) you will be contacted by our team in order to arrange a screening for the coronavirus infection. This screening will be in the form of a telephone questionnaire about your recent activity and contacts. If you are symptom-free and do not have a temperature on arrival, you will be allowed to enter the hospital through what is known as the “Red Pathway”. In exceptional circumstances, you may be accompanied by a family member - such as if you require help with some of the decision-making processes or the preoperative planning.

Socially-Distanced Consultation

In clinic, you will be seen by your surgeon or nurse, who will be wearing a mask at this stage. During the consultation, social distancing can be observed, and if the patient is comfortable, both surgeon and patient can remove their masks. This is possible thanks to the social distancing in place, in addition to our regular screenings of our staff for the COVID-19 infection, in addition to regular testing. If the patient prefers, both patient and staff can continue to wear their masks.

Physical examination requires a degree of proximity, during which both surgeon and patient should then put their masks back on to safely undertake that stage of the consultation.

Self-Isolation

As all Manchester Plastic Surgery patients are classified as undergoing an elective surgery (as all cosmetic surgery is elective by nature) you will follow what is known as the “Green Pathway”. This pathway involves a throat and nose swab being performed at the hospital three days prior to admission in order to ensure all patients are negative for the virus.

From that moment on, you will be required to self-isolate until the time of your admission (three days in total) at which point you will enter the building through the “Green Entrance”. You will be taken to your room, avoiding all “Red” areas and are treated within the “Green Zone” by members of staff who have been screened weekly for coronavirus. This ensures that patients who are free from coronavirus upon their point of entry remain safely on the “Green Pathway”, away from any prospective patients who have not been screened, who are kept within the “Red Pathway” prior to testing. By undergoing this process, you are helping Manchester Plastic Surgery to ensure you are at a very low risk of becoming positive.

Once these procedures have been followed and you are in theatre, your surgery will proceed very much as it did before the pandemic arose.  As a result of having followed these procedures, our medical and surgical staff are able to operate to the best of their abilities, both with regards to safety but also the quality and standard of results that you expect from Manchester Plastic Surgery.

Leaving Our Care

Once you leave our care, you can expect to recover as normal, attending your follow-up appointment at our clinic through the same “Red Zone'' procedure as an outpatient. Thanks to our carefully-maintained surgical setting and procedures in place, our surgical team is confident that we can continue to provide all of our patients with the same standard of care and quality of results that they expect from us.

Please be assured that the quality of your care will not be compromised by the current climate, and as a result we look forward to welcoming you to our clinic! For further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
