Advice on Choosing Your Facelift Surgeon

Choosing to have cosmetic surgery is a big decision. It’s important that you feel confident that you’ve chosen the right treatment and have selected a trusted surgeon who can safely give you the results you have in your mind’s eye. Not only will this help you approach your treatment date feeling calm and relaxed, but it’s the best way to know the results you can expect to tackle those visible signs of ageing that are knocking your confidence.

One of the ways to help you feel confident in your decision is to ask the surgeon as many questions as you can at your consultation and research into their reviews and previous work. This will help you make an informed choice and settle on a surgeon that you trust is right for you.

Look out for professional qualifications

A great way to establish trust in your surgeon is to find out about their professional qualifications. You need to feel confident that they are trained to perform your facelift and have experience in this treatment area. We suggest making a list of questions to take to your consultation to find out everything you need to know. Some questions that you can ask, to determine your surgeon’s qualifications and experience, are:

  • Are you on the special register for plastic surgery?
  • What specific training do you have in facelift surgery?
  • How many facelifts do you perform a month on average?
  • Have there ever been any complications when you were performing a facelift surgery?
  • Have you ever been involved in any medical malpractice suits?

Our expert in surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation, Mr Christopher Jones, is a highly qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2011 and was honored with the Harvey Minassian prize for outstanding academic achievement.

Mr Jones commenced his surgical training in 2013 and attained membership in the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In 2022, having completed training in major tertiary units in Scotland and Liverpool, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery.

Ask for before and after photos

Another great way to find out if your surgeon can give you your dream results is to ask to view some before and after photos. These will always give you a great indication of what they can achieve and the results you can expect following your treatment. We also suggest searching online for reviews from prior facelift surgery patients. This will give you a feel for the patient satisfaction and you can find details about their levels of aftercare. To learn more about your facelift surgeon’s previous work, we suggest asking the following questions in your consultation:

  • Can I see some before and after photos?
  • Can I speak with any of your previous facelift patients?
  • Do you ever have to perform revisions of your work? If so, how many?
  • Have you ever had complaints from facelift patients?

Feel confident in your safety, and desired results

Above all, when you’re searching for the best facelift surgeon for you, your priority should be your safety and confidence that your surgeon can give you the results you’re looking for. Asking the right questions to help you make an informed decision will bring you peace of mind in the lead-up to your treatment so you can get excited about your results.

Before settling on a facelift surgeon, make sure you understand the treatment process and know what to expect from your surgeon and the treatment itself. To find out everything you need to know, ask the following questions:

  • What can I expect my facelift results to look like?
  • What will be involved in my facelift treatment?
  • How long does a facelift take?
  • What are the risks associated with a facelift?
  • What are my options if I am dissatisfied with my results?
  • Am I a good candidate for this treatment?
  • What can I do before and after surgery to see the best results?
  • Which type of facelift would you recommend for me?
  • Will my results change over time?

Like any surgery, knowing what to expect from your facelift and the associated risks is extremely important to help you decide if you’re happy to go ahead with the treatment. As there are various types of facelift surgery, including a mini-facelift and face and neck lift, it’s useful to consult your surgeon about which surgery they think will be best for you to give you an overall rejuvenated appearance.
