Deciding to have breast enlargement surgery

If you’re considering having breast enlargement surgery in Manchester, an initial consultation with a member of our specialist team will help to answer all your questions.

We appreciate that breast surgery is probably one of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make so it’s important to take good advice from a surgeon who will put your interests first. This is where our initial consultation process can be so helpful.

During the consultation, our surgeons will seek to understand what you’re not happy about and how you want to look post-surgery. They will then be able to assess your body shape and advise you on whether surgery will give you the results you desire. This can be an enormously comforting and reassuring experience whilst you’re considering having breast enlargement surgery at our state-of-the-art hospital in Manchester. After the consultation, you’ll be able to think more clearly about the procedure before making your final decision.

The important point to stress is that this initial consultation is not about encouraging you to have breast enlargement surgery. Rather, it’s an opportunity for you and our surgical team to explore whether plastic surgery is right for you, whether it will solve a problem that’s causing you to feel unhappy about the way you look. We do occasionally meet people for whom surgery is not the right route and we always give open and honest feedback, we know this is highly valued by our patients.

What happens during surgery?

Surgery is a major step, and we want you to be 100% confident before you decide to go ahead. Fortunately, the initial consultation is a great opportunity for you to find out what’s involved in breast enlargement surgery and to ask all those niggling questions which may be causing you anxiety.

If you do decide to go ahead one of the fundamental questions to answer is: what size of implant should you go for? The right answer will depend on your preferences and your anatomy, but we have plenty of experience in helping patients achieve a natural, healthy appearance.

You can read our breast enlargement information pages to find out more about what’s involved – it’s one of the most common procedures we carry out. You should expect to stay in hospital overnight, though the procedure itself usually takes only one to two hours.

In terms of recovery, of course, everyone is different so it’s not possible to say exactly how long it will take you to feel fully back to normal. Your tapes will be removed a week after surgery, but your stitches will be absorbed. Swelling can take up to two months to disappear and your scar will be firm and pink for about three months. Expect to have to take it easy for a couple of weeks (being careful not to do housework or other strenuous activity), and take some time off work, we usually advise a fortnight. Eventually, your scars will fade and it should be possible to hide them under clothing.

Within two to three months you should be fully healed and back to normal, simply enjoying your new look and, once more, feeling more confident in your own skin.
