# Breast Implant Removal without Replacement
Breast implant removal without replacement can help you to restore your natural figure that you now miss, embrace loving the real you.
We encounter women who years later after having a [breast ](https://www.manchesterplasticsurgery.com/breast-enlargement/)[augmentation](https://www.manchesterplasticsurgery.com/breast-enlargement/), they find their implants become an obstacle in their everyday life, prompting them to decide on a [breast implant removal ](https://blog.manchesterplasticsurgery.com/breast-implant-removal)without replacement. Changing body ideals and increased body positivity in the media have altered women’s relationships with their natural body, meaning sometimes people want to revert back to their smaller breast size. Alternatively, enlarged breasts, depending on their size can making exercise difficult, high intensity workouts or that zumba class you really want to go to, can seem almost impossible.
The extra weight of enlarged breasts for some women can lead to neck, shoulder and back problems as it exerts pressure on the spine, making everyday life uncomfortable, causing some women to opt for a breast implant removal without replacement.
Some women unfortunately suffer from complications due to their breast implants, usually related to the implant slipping, rupturing or capsular contracture as the scar tissue surrounding the implant tightens. As breast implants do not last a lifetime, patients often require additional surgeries. After years of replacements and correction procedures, some women decide to have their implants removed altogether through a breast implant removal without replacement. They feel tired of the issues and interruptions their implants have caused. Some women also aren’t able to shoulder the additional, out-of-pocket cost of further procedures, when they may spend it taking their family on holiday for example.
## Having Breast Implants Removed
The operation should take between 1-2 hours to complete, depending on the particulars of your procedure as if you’re undergoing a capsulectomy the process may take longer. The breast implant removal without replacement procedure will be carried out under general anaesthetic and will entail an overnight stay. Whenever possible, your surgeon will cut along the same incision lines of your original breast augmentation to prevent additional scarring. The incision wound will then be stitched and dressed and you will be given advice on how to care for yourself after the surgery with practical information relating to showering, dressings and checking for infection.
## Breasts after Implant removal
It’s difficult to predict the appearance of your breasts following breast implant removal without replacement. It will depend on a variety of factors the elasticity of your skin, the size of the implant as this may mean you have more redundant skin as the breast augmentation has permanently stretched your breasts. Furthermore, the appearance of your breasts will depend on how much stretching your body has gone through over the years whether due to weight gain, pregnancy or hormonal changes and also if you have any pain associated with the implants.
## Breast Implant Removal and Lift
Following the breast implant removal without replacement surgery, your new natural breasts may look deflated, however be patient, it can take 3-4 weeks before you see the results of how your breasts and skin can rebound from the stretching caused by the existence of the implants. However, if you are concerned by the shape of your breasts following the removal of implants, you may wish to opt for a [breast lift](https://www.manchesterplasticsurgery.com/mastopexy-breast-lift/)(also known as a mastopexy) to give your breasts a more youthful appearance.
