Anti-wrinkle fillers are one of the most popular treatments for fine lines and wrinkles and can be highly effective in restoring a younger, fresher appearance.

If you’re considering anti-wrinkle injections it makes sense to understand how to care for your skin after treatment to help you enjoy the best possible results and to ensure the benefits are as long-lasting as possible.

Of course, when you attend for your appointment at Manchester Plastic Surgery, we would provide tailored advice based on the condition of your skin and the level of treatment which has been provided. In general, however, there are some general hints and tips which apply to everyone.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise and lifting heavy objects for 24 hours and try to stay upright for at least four hours after treatment to help the injection settle into the required areas.
  • Leave your skin to settle before having any beauty treatments such as facials in the affected area. Two or three days should be sufficient.
  • There is some evidence to support facial movement increasing the onset and effectiveness of anti-wrinkle injections. Who has time to pull silly faces for days on end, waiting for the desired effect? Our advice is: do what you would normally do!
  • You can wear make-up again the day after treatment, but try to stick to products you are used to as you do not want to risk an allergic reaction. Powder-based make up is more of a problem than pure cream-based. Cream-based make-up can be applied three hours after your treatment.
  • You can usually begin using your usual moisturising creams the day of treatment but leave two days after if you use a cream with Retin-A.
  • Try to stay well hydrated as this will aid your skin.

It is a quick and simple procedure and there are rarely any problems after treatment. If you’re thinking about having anti-wrinkle injections, read our section on Anti-Wrinkle Injections where you can find out more about what’s involved, and compare them with dermal fillers which are another option which can be useful in treating facial lines.

The next step is to book an initial consultation at which we would assess your skin and seek to understand the results you would like to achieve. It’s also a great opportunity for you to ask lots of questions so that you make an informed choice about whether it is the right treatment for you.
