Choosing Your Clinic for Weight Loss Surgery

We know that there’s a lot to think about when you’re considering surgery after losing weight. You’ll need to choose from a variety of treatment options and do a lot of research to make sure you feel confident you’re making the right decision about your choice of surgeon and clinic. After all, when you’ve made the effort to lose weight, you want someone you can trust to transform your body and give you results you’ll love.

We know it can feel a bit overwhelming when you begin to research plastic surgeons and clinics for your post-weight loss surgery. We aim to help you feel comfortable and secure with your choice of surgeon, treatment, and clinic to guarantee you feel calm in the lead up to your treatment and confident your surgeon can give you your dream results.

There are a few things you can do to make help you choose the right clinic for you - do your research on post-weight loss surgery before you attend your consultation, ask the surgeon to clarify any areas you’re not sure about, request to see before and after photos, ask about your surgeon’s qualifications, and read reviews by other patients. Above all, you need to be sure your surgeon is being honest with you about the results you can expect as well as any risks associated with the treatment to guarantee you’re making an informed decision.

Do Your Research

Before you book a consultation for post-weight loss surgery, we always recommend thoroughly researching the surgeons you may be interested in. Look at the clinic’s website but also take a look at platforms such as Real Self where patients post honest reviews and before and after photos from their treatment. Looking at your surgeon’s previous work will help you think more carefully about who you want to work with.

It’s also vital to explore your prospective surgeon’s qualifications and experience. This is a great way to establish trust in your surgeon as you can feel confident they’re trained to perform your weight loss surgery safely.

Here at Manchester Plastic Surgery, we have an experienced team of surgeons with significant expertise in supporting people to achieve an improved body shape after they’ve lost weight, particularly with abdominoplasty (also known as the ‘Tummy Tuck’).

Attending Consultations

A key part of any plastic surgery preparation is the consultation. This is the time to really get to know your surgeon and ask any questions you have about your treatment, risks, and recovery. Your consultation is the best time to assess whether you’re comfortable with trusting the surgeon to perform your post-weight loss surgery. If your consultation is at the clinic where your treatment will take place, you may also want to ask if you can see the aftercare suites and have a tour of the clinic to get to grips with your surroundings.

Here at Manchester Plastic Surgery, we conduct a two-step consultation process at our state-of-the-art Spire Manchester Hospital where you will have your treatment if you choose to go ahead.

You will have your initial consultation with your surgeon who will give you an honest assessment of which treatment, or combination of treatments, will be best to achieve your desired results. At this stage, your surgeon will also walk you through any risks associated with your treatment and, where appropriate, will use 3D imaging technology to help you visualise your post-treatment results.

Following your initial consultation, you will have time to do some more thinking to make sure you feel comfortable to proceed. If you do choose to go ahead, we’ll arrange a follow-up consultation where we will discuss the specifics of your treatment, answer any further questions, and give you tips to prepare in the lead up to your treatment.

This two-stage process helps you develop a great relationship with your surgeon so when you return to our clinic for treatment, you will feel calm knowing you’re in trusted hands.

Explore Your Options

When you want to change your body, it can feel like you just want a quick fix to help you feel like the real ‘you’ again. But make sure you explore your options about the type of treatment you’d like. All treatments come with their own risks, so it’s important to weigh up your options carefully and speak with an expert who will give you honest advice about your choice of treatment.

Our aim is always to identify the most effective treatment for you to help you achieve your dream body. For this reason, we perform a variety of weight loss treatments which we’ll be happy to explain in more detail at your consultation. Some of the treatments we offer include:

  • Abdominoplasty – Also known as a Tummy Tuck, an abdominoplasty is ideal for anyone who has tried to achieve a slimmer stomach through strict lifestyle changes but still can’t achieve their desired results. We offer both full and partial abdominoplasties to help our patients achieve a flatter, more contoured stomach and narrower waist.

  • Liposuction – Liposuction is a great way to improve the body’s contour by removing pockets of unwanted fat. If you have some localised areas that don’t respond to diet and exercise, liposuction helps to remove these awkward ‘bulges’ to achieve a slimmer, more even contour in specific areas of the body. Unlike an abdominoplasty, liposuction can be used to treat a variety of areas including the chin, neck, cheeks, upper arms, torso, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, calves, knees, and ankles.

  • Mummy Makeover – A mummy makeover is ideal for women who are struggling to get back into shape after pregnancy. It targets both the stomach and breasts to help achieve a flatter core and restore any loss of volume in the breasts following pregnancy and breastfeeding.
