Deciding to have plastic surgery - what are you worried about?

Whilst it’s exciting to book your plastic surgery treatment we also appreciate you may be slightly worried too.  Hopefully, your meetings with our surgical team will put your mind at rest but here we explore the three main worries people have when thinking about having surgery.

Worry #1: Safety
One of the biggest worries people have with plastic surgery is around safety.  There is, understandably, concern about potential complications, infections, adverse reactions to anaesthesia, and other medical risks associated with surgical procedures. The fear of going under the knife and the possibility of post-surgery complications can be a significant source of anxiety.

MPS Insight: We’ll talk you through the risks before you undergo your treatment.  However, complications are rare and when you choose an established, experienced practice like ours, you minimise your risk of something going wrong further still.

Worry #2: Unrealistic expectations and disappointment
Another common worry revolves around unrealistic expectations and the potential for disappointment with the results. Media and celebrity images often create an idealised perception of beauty, which might not always align with the achievable outcomes of plastic surgery. It’s understandable to worry that your expectations won't be met, and that you might end up dissatisfied with the results, leading to emotional distress.

MPS Insight: Our initial consultation is as important to us as it is to you.  We seek to understand what you want to achieve from surgery and this enables our surgeons to assess whether this is realistic.  We want you to be delighted with your results – if we don’t think they’re achievable, we’ll let you know.

Worry #3: Permanent changes and regret
The permanence of plastic surgery outcomes is a significant concern. You may worry that you might make decisions based on current desires that you’ll later regret. Once a procedure is done, it can be challenging or impossible to reverse the changes. This fear of long-term dissatisfaction or regret can deter you from undergoing surgery.

MPS Insight: Our team is here to help you make an informed decision about whether plastic surgery is right for you.  The initial consultation is your opportunity to find out what’s involved in the procedure you’re exploring.  It’s also our chance to get to know you, your motivations for surgery and it allows us to assess your physiology and let you know if we can achieve your desired results.  If you choose to go ahead with surgery with us, you’ll do so with confidence.

In summary
If you’re worried about having plastic surgery, rest assured you’re normal.  It’s a big decision that requires careful consideration.  However, if you’re dissatisfied with your appearance then it’s important not to let your fears get in the way, especially if they can be allayed by getting expert advice from our experienced plastic surgeons.
