How long does a neck lift last?

A popular solution for those who are starting to see signs of aging around their neck and jawline, a neck lift offers both immediate and long-lasting results – giving your jawline the shape that is so often reserved for the young.

Whether approached as a standalone treatment or as part of a broader facelift, neck lift surgery is considered by many as a core component of anti-aging surgical intervention – framing and accentuating the defining shape of the face. And while most of the benefits focus on the results of the surgery itself, one of the most common questions that we get asked is about how long those results actually last.

What you need to know about neck lift surgery
When the skin around your neck and jawline starts to lose its elasticity, it becomes slack and loose – and no amount of dieting, exercise or moisturiser will prevent you from presenting a double chin and drooping jowls. The result, for many, is a permanently downtrodden, unhappy-looking expression.

When this happens, many clients choose to opt for a neck lift – a plastic surgery solution which is suitable for men and women, and which seeks to remove fat deposits around the neck as well as excess skin (in some cases) to tighten the neck and create that youthful jawline.

The surgery typically takes two to three hours, with different techniques employed by your surgeon depending on your ideal results:

• Liposuction, often the easiest way to remove excess fat deposits from the neck
• Skin and fat removal, a more invasive alternative if the treatment required is more extensive

The benefits of neck lift surgery
From restoring a youthful structure to smoothing and tightening the skin across the neck and the face itself, neck lift surgery is a permanent solution.

For most who seek neck lift treatment, the results can last for up to 15 years or more, with the exact length of time depending on physiology and the structure of your features and lifestyle factors.

To optimise your results and ensure that they last as long as possible, it is advised that you seek treatment soon rather than later once you start to see irreversible sagging and signs of ageing around the neck.

The simple fact is, plastic surgery is a long-term solution to signs of ageing though it does not come without risks. Your surgeon will talk to you about this in detail before you decide to go ahead. However, as with any surgery, one of the things to be aware of is the potential for scarring, and while neck lift surgery only creates and requires small incisions behind the ears, these scars will not fully disappear.

Is a neck lift the right treatment for you?
With long-lasting results, there is a lot to love about neck lift surgery.

As part of your treatment, we will first invite you to an initial consultation. At this meeting, your surgeon will discuss your ideal results and identify the best approach, answering any questions you may have about your surgery, preparation and recovery.
