If you’re considering having anti-wrinkle treatments such as dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, it’s important to know that you’ll need to have regular top-ups to maintain your new look. By making you aware of what’s involved from the outset, we can help you decide if one of these non-cosmetic treatments is the right route for you to take.
The results from dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections certainly can be long-lasting, especially when carried out by an experienced plastic surgeon who knows exactly where to place the treatment for optimum results. Our own anti-wrinkle and dermal filler specialist, Adam Goodwin (FRCS), has worked in this area for a number of years and has an excellent track record in helping patients to achieve the results they desire.
It should be noted, however, that neither dermal fillers nor anti-wrinkle injections will provide a permanent change. For that, you’ll need to think about having a facelift or brow lift, both of which are more involved cosmetic surgery procedures, yet highly effective at creating an overall more youthful appearance.
Of course, dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are an appealing solution because there is no surgery or general anaesthetic involved and the procedure can be carried out literally in your lunch break (or a couple of hours if you’re having more extensive treatment).
Returning for top-up treatments is also relatively straight-forward as, unlike surgery, there’s no pre-operative preparation and no need to rest afterwards, you can continue with normal life as soon as your treatment ends (though you’ll need to follow our advice on how to care for your skin and will need to avoid strenuous activity for a few hours afterwards).
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly how often you’ll need more treatments, as everyone’s face and skin responds differently.
In general, however, you should expect to return every four to six months. While some people will want more frequent treatments, perhaps not wishing to let their lines or wrinkles fully return before seeking further treatment, others may be able to leave seven or even nine months between treatments.
When you attend your initial consultation to find out more about anti-wrinkle or dermal fillers at Manchester Plastic Surgery, an assessment of your skin and facial lines/wrinkles will enable us to give you a good indication of the results that you’re likely to see. We may also be able to tell, from the condition of your skin, how often you’re likely to have between treatments to maintain the fresher look that dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections bring, though it’s impossible to be certain until the procedure has been carried out, of course.
