How to Prepare for your First Consultation with MPS

A consultation with a member of our team is the best way to decide if plastic surgery is right for you.

The aim of the initial consultation is to give you a good idea of the results you could expect to see, and to provide more information about what’s involved in your chosen procedure.  It’s also a chance to meet the surgeon who will carry out your treatment, and to see where you would be cared for before and after surgery.

There’s very little you need to do to prepare for your initial consultation, but here's some tips:

  • Where does the consultation take place?

At our clinic at The Pines Hospital, Manchester, where your treatment would take place. It’s an opportunity for you to see our facilities and to meet the team.

  • How long does it take?

It depends on the procedure you are considering but expect to be with us for 45 minutes to an hour.

  • Who will I meet?

We believe it’s really important to meet the surgeon who will actually carry out your procedure so your consultation will be led by Mr James Murphy or Mr Christopher Jones.  You’ll also meet the nurses and support staff who would be involved in your care.

What can I do to prepare for the consultation?

You don’t need to do anything to prepare for the appointment, though you may like to take a look at the information on our treatments pages to find out more about the procedure you are considering.

During your appointment we will ask about your reasons for considering plastic surgery and assess your face or the area of your body you are not happy with in order to give you a good idea of the results you can expect to see.

We will also go through what’s involved in your chosen procedure and the recovery process and make you aware of any risks or scarring which may occur.

While most of the people who attend these initial consultations do go on to have plastic surgery, a small number decide not to go ahead.  This is absolutely fine, you are under no obligation what-so-ever to have surgery. Our aim with this initial consultation is to ensure that you can make an informed decision when you get home about whether surgery is right for you.
