Is Facelift Surgery Right For You?

As we get older and our children leave home, unsurprisingly, our priorities may begin to shift. Life no longer has to be centred around the family in the same way, so many people begin to look inwards again: finally able to concentrate on making time for themselves. When you start paying more attention to yourself, it is common to feel disheartened about your appearance, especially if you’re beginning to show signs of ageing and your reflection no longer represents how you feel.

For many patients we see, they have never considered surgery or the possibility of a facelift. Often we speak to people who come to our waiting room and wonder if they’re making the right decision by exploring their options with facial rejuvenation treatments. It can be easy for those who have spent years raising a family and prioritising others to feel anxious about focusing on themselves and their appearance. However, it’s important to remind yourself that this sensation is completely normal and it’s time to live your life for you – which if you want, may mean looking and feeling your best.

Whether you’re concerned about evening out a few fine lines or removing loose skin, there is a range of both surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments that can help you regain your confidence and overcome your insecurities.

Of course, there is a lot to consider when contemplating any form of cosmetic treatment, but our experts are here to put your mind at ease and answer any questions you may have. We’ll always give you the best possible support when it comes to your surgical options, so you can be confident in choosing the right treatment to look and feel your best.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

The two non-surgical facial treatments we offer are dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. Both of these are minimally invasive treatments, perfect for targeting fine lines and helping your face to appear fuller and more youthful.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are suitable for men and women of all ages. They are most common for men and women between the ages of 25 to 70, for their subtle and versatile effect on wrinkles and fine lines.

The areas of concern that we target with anti-wrinkle injections are crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes, horizontal lines on the forehead, and vertical lines between the eyebrows.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a perfect solution for anyone who wants a quick refresh of the youthfulness of their skin with little scarring and minimal recovery time. Effects can be seen almost immediately, and the treatment can take as little as 20 minutes, so it can be slipped into a busy schedule with minimal disruption. Following treatment, effects will typically last three to four months, but with repeated treatments, the relaxed and softened effects will last up to six or seven months.

Dermal Fillers

If your major concern is a lack of volume in the face, we recommend dermal fillers. This non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment is most commonly used to treat the nasolabial folds (lines between the mouth and nose) and vertical lines around the mouth. They are also commonly used to contour the cheeks and chin, restoring a more plump and youthful complexion.

Similar to anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers are minimally invasive and a perfect option if you don’t want to undergo surgery, but aren’t happy with your visible signs of ageing. The treatment typically takes 30-40 minutes and the effects are immediately visible, looking their best after 48-72 hours.

As a non-surgical option, dermal fillers are not permanent, with effects usually lasting a few months before the filler is broken down and absorbed by the body. This means further treatments may be required after the initial appointment to maintain the effect. Nevertheless, these are an extremely common treatment for women looking to combat signs of ageing without taking time out for surgery and recovery.

Surgical Treatments (Facelifts)

For some people, once their children have left home and they have additional freedom and flexibility, they desire a complete, permanent transformation that can keep them looking younger and refreshed.

A surgical facelift is the most permanent treatment to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin, and remove jowls and crow’s feet. Here we offer three different types of surgical facelift, all of which are carried out by Mr Christopher Jones, our specialist in all aspects of surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation:

The 'Mini Facelift '

A mini facelift is the least invasive surgical treatment that is used to help treat signs of ageing. It typically only requires local anaesthetic, significantly reducing your stay in hospital and the recovery time post-treatment. The treatment involves small incisions made at the front of the ear and into the hairline, allowing access to the lower third of the face to enhance definition along the jawline or remove the build-up of excess fat around the chin. A mini facelift is also great for targeting moderate sagging in the cheeks.

A 'Face And Neck' Lift

A face and neck lift is also focused on the lower third of the face but it involves slightly larger incisions which allow for further access to the space beneath the chin and jawline. We often combine this treatment with liposuction or open removal of fat, as well as occasional tightening of the neck muscles under the chin to target the centre of the neck where loose skin tends to gather as we age. A face and neck lift is conducted under general anaesthetic, requiring an overnight stay in the hospital, and time at home to rest and recover post-treatment to allow for the best results.

Extended Facelift

An extended facelift is the most comprehensive of all facial rejuvenation treatments – perfect for those seeking a full anti-ageing transformation. Incisions made within the hairline enable access to the lower third of the face, the neck, and extend to the temporal region, allowing the surgeon to address the lateral brow, crow’s feet, and the upper cheeks as well as the chin and neck. This is the most attractive option for many patients considering a facelift as it targets the entire face, giving a completely renewed, refreshed, and youthful appearance.
