Is Pinnaplasty a Permanent Solution?

Whilst plastic surgery treatments can sometimes be revisited if you’re not happy with your results, or if your physiology changes in the years after surgery, we would always encourage you to think of your treatment as a permanent change.

This includes pinnaplasty, also known as otoplasty, a common procedure for pinning back prominent ears, reducing the size of large ears as well as treating lop ear, cupped ear and shell ear.

Ear surgery patients will often ask whether the effects of their surgery will wear off over time. However, we can reassure them that this is certainly not the case. As a permanent solution, once your ears have been pinned into their new position, you do not need to worry that they will change shape or become prominent again.

The permanence of plastic surgery means there’s no going back, so it’s extremely important you work with a team you’re confident can give you the results you’re looking for in the first place.

Here at Manchester Plastic Surgery, our team has decades of experience in plastic surgery, having carried out hundreds of pinnaplasty treatments on people of all ages. This experience makes all the difference when it comes to having confidence in working with a surgeon who can give you realistic expectations of the results that can be achieved.

The importance of this cannot be underestimated, especially as you have to live with the results for the rest of your life. Because of our experience, our ability to articulate the results that can be achieved and our methodical approach to planning surgery, pinnaplasty has turned out to be a positive experience for all our patients, enhancing their self-esteem and confidence, solving a problem that has often plagued them since childhood.

Because pinnaplasty can be used to treat a variety of ear problems, the approach your surgeon will take will depend on the issue you wish to address as well as the extent of the change you’d like to make.

The first step in your journey is to book an initial consultation with a member of our plastic surgery team. At this meeting, your surgeon can assess your ears and explain the options available to you. They will also cover the risks involved with surgery. This conversation will help you make an informed decision about whether surgery is right for you.

If it is, then you can set a date for your pinnaplasty treatment and make plans to ensure you can rest afterwards. Letting friends and family cook and clean for you in the immediate aftermath of surgery can make a huge difference. You will also need to plan to take time off work, usually a week is enough but as everyone recovers differently you may prefer to take two. The more you can rest after surgery, the faster and smoother your recovery is likely to be.
