Neck Lift Plastic surgery options for double chin removal

A double chin or sagging skin around the neckline, often known as ‘jowls’, can significantly impact self-confidence for both men and women. The neck is an area of the body which is often neglected but will usually be one of the first places that will show signs of ageing. Your neck can define your whole appearance and double chin removal can help build your confidence and self-esteem, not least because slack skin can cause the face to have a permanently sad expression. Can a neck lift reduce a double chin?

One of the solutions to a double chin or jowling neckline is a neck lift procedure. A neck lift will aim to tighten the loose muscles in the neck and remove excess or sagging skin to create a smoother and younger appearance.

What are the benefits of a double chin removal?

A neck lift can remove a double chin or so-called ‘turkey neck’ by getting rid of excess and sagging skin. It will also reduce the number of wrinkles and creases in the neckline giving a smoother and tighter appearance.

Many people will consider a neck lift alongside a facelift, brow lift or eyelid surgery, to give a smooth and seamless appearance and therefore reduce the signs of ageing. While your face and neck will continue to alter with age, you should enjoy a natural look, and the overall effect should be long-lasting.

What happens in a double chin removal  procedure?

If you are considering a neck lift you will need to attend an initial consultation at which we will assess your neck and jawline and discuss the various options available to you. We will be able to give you a good indication of the results you’re likely to achieve.

The procedure or combination of procedures would be completed under general anaesthetic. You’ll have small incisions near your ears and, possibly, under your chin too. From these incisions, we can then work to tighten the muscles and remove excess tissue and sagging skin.

Once we’re happy with the results we will close the incisions and cover the wounds appropriately. The operation usually lasts two to three hours. If you are combining a neck lift with a facelift, brow lift or eyelid surgery, the approach may differ, but we will discuss this in detail with you during your pre-operative appointments.

Post-surgery care

After neck lift surgery, you can expect to experience some swelling and bruising, but this typically subsides after a week or two. You can expect your neck to feel tighter, while you get used to the effects, which may take a few months to settle down. You can expect to return to work around 10 days after the operation, providing you’ve had plenty of rest and are recovering well.

Once you are recovered, you should expect to see a natural, more youthful looking neck with minimal scarring from the incisions.
