Nose jobs at our Manchester hospital: costs, the procedure & recovery

Rhinoplasty, or a ‘nose job’ as it’s commonly called, is one of the most popular treatments we carry out here at Manchester Plastic Surgery. Our lead on nose surgery is Mr James Murphy who has built a firm reputation as a rhinoplasty surgeon having carried out hundreds of treatments in a career spanning 20+ years.

Whether you’re motivated to have a nose job because of the size or shape of your nose, or a bit of both, we can provide you with the advice and guidance you need to decide whether surgery is right for you. We appreciate it’s a big decision not to be taken lightly, so you need to know all about what’s involved and have a clear picture of the result that can be achieved before you go ahead.

Of course, the best way to get tailored advice is to attend an initial consultation which will allow Mr Murphy to assess your nose and understand what a good outcome would look like for you. If you would like, we can arrange to create a 3D image of your nose and show you exactly how you’ll look after surgery. We want to leave you with a nose you love as we are only too well aware of the impact this can have on your self-esteem and confidence. After all, the nose is a prominent feature of the face; being unhappy with your nose can impact how fully you embrace life.

If you’ve decided to seriously consider having a nose job at our hospital in Manchester you need to know about the risks. Although complications are rare, all surgery carries some risk so it’s important to us that you know exactly what could go wrong. The main potential complications to be aware of include infection, nosebleed or a reaction to anaesthesia. Though it’s unlikely any of these complications will occur, they will be discussed with you in detail during your pre-operative consultation.

Most procedures take one to two hours to complete although we can give you a clearer idea of the timescale when we’ve assessed the complexity of your treatment. You’ll need to stay in hospital, cared for by our specialist team, for one night but then you can continue your recovery at home. You’ll need to take it easy for a couple of weeks after surgery, so prepare to have time off work and enlist the support of family and friends for housework and other chores in the immediate aftermath of surgery.

Commonly, rhinoplasty is carried out within the nose so there is no visible scarring. If your procedure is to correct an issue such as flared nostrils then you may be left with small scars on the base of the nose which will usually fade with time.

Swelling can last several weeks so it may be some time until you see the final results of your surgery. In the main, your scars will be hidden inside the nostril so it shouldn’t be obvious to anyone that you’ve had surgery.
