Plastic surgery options for the ‘apple’ figure

If you are not happy about your body shape and have tried to change it through diet and exercise, then plastic surgery could be a good option for you.

While everyone’s body is different, our general shape usually fits into one of four categories – the apple, pear, hourglass or rectangle.

  • If you have an apple figure, it’s likely that you carry your weight on your chest and tummy rather than your hips or thighs.
  • People with a pear shape will carry their curves on their tummy and hips.
  • The hourglass figure is defined by its curves.
  • And the rectangle figure is defined by its lack of curves.

We provide a range of plastic surgery options to help everyone enjoy their bodies and to feel confident and happy in their own skin. While major changes can be achieved through plastic surgery, we have as many people request subtle changes which other people may not notice but which help the individual concerned to feel like an improved version of themselves.

Plastic surgery options

If you have an apple figure and are unhappy with the shape of your body, there are a number of plastic surgery options which may be appropriate for you to consider. Many ‘apple-shaped’ patients opt for a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or liposuction as these treatments are particularly effective in improving the outline of the stomach and waist areas.

What is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, involves removing excess skin and fat from the abdomen and then tightening the abdominal wall resulting in a flatter stomach and narrower waistline. You can opt for a full or partial tummy tuck depending upon the extent of the results you would like to achieve. Find out more about abdominoplasty.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is an alternative treatment for the tummy area which can help to improve the body’s outline by removing pockets of unwanted fat. It involves making a small incision (or series of incisions) and attaching a hollow tube to a machine which creates a strong vacuum through which fat and fat storage tissue can be suctioned out. Unlike abdominoplasty, liposuction does not involve any alterations to your abdominal wall. When you’ve had liposuction you will need to eat sensibly and exercise regularly in order to avoid weight gain, otherwise further treatments may be necessary in future. First steps

If you are considering having plastic surgery to alter the shape of your body, the first step is to make an appointment to attend an initial consultation at our state-of-the-art facilities at the Spire Manchester Hospital.

During this appointment, we will assess your body and discuss what you would like to achieve and provide the information you need to make an informed decision about whether surgery is right for you. We will also offer you the opportunity to undergo 3D modelling so that you can see the difference your surgery would make.
