Surgical vs Non-Surgical Chin Surgery

We are seeing an increasing number of patients who are unhappy with the shape of their chin and jawline. Definition and tightening of the skin in this area can have a dramatic impact on how old you look and feel.

Perhaps you lack definition in the chin area because of the natural shape of your face, and it’s an issue you’ve been aware of all your life. Or it may be that you have lost definition in this area only in recent years because your skin is starting to sag as you age.  Whatever your circumstances, we can help.  We understand what it’s like to be unhappy with your appearance, and the impact it can have on your self-esteem.

There are both surgical and non-surgical options to help sculpt more definition in your face, but by far the best approach is chin surgery. Lack of definition around the chin area can only be permanently resolved through surgical intervention, with implants being the best way to get the shape and definition you desire.

Whilst there is a growing trend towards the use of dermal fillers to help reshape the chin, such treatment will have less reliable results and certainly won’t be permanent.  We have significant experience and expertise in dermal filler treatments and whilst they can be effective in giving definition to the chin area, they can only go so far.  If your chin is particularly undefined, you would need a significant amount of filler to be injected in exactly the right spots time and again to achieve and maintain definition.  This is impractical for most people and means it’s difficult to get consistent results, particularly over a prolonged period.

We do understand why patients want to explore non-surgical chin treatments.  Dermal fillers allow you to see an improvement without having to commit to the permanence of surgery.  However, feeling comfortable about going ahead with surgery is a case of taking good advice and choosing a surgeon you like and trust to achieve the results you have in mind.

For us, the starting point is always an initial consultation so that we can see for ourselves the problem you would like to address.  We always seek to understand your motivations for surgery and build a picture of the result you would like to achieve.  Only then can we assess your physiology and advise on the best approach.

Chin surgery itself is relatively straight-forward.  Before your operation, we would discuss with you the size and shape of the implant to be used to ensure a natural-looking result.  Your implant would be fitted under general anaesthetic, and you would need to stay overnight at our state-of-the-art hospital where our team can help your recovery get off to a good start.

Expect to start to see your results after two to three weeks though full recovery can take several weeks.  However, once your swelling has settled you will be left with permanent improvement to the shape of your chin, neck and jawline and can face the world with improved self-esteem and confidence once again.
