Understanding facelifts - what are revision facelifts?

There are only two reasons for revision facelifts.  Firstly, you may choose to have a revision if the original surgery has not achieved the desired results.  Secondly, you may decide to have further treatment if the results of your original surgery have begun to reduce.

Original surgery has not achieved the desired results

If you had surgery elsewhere but are not happy with the results, rather than live with the disappointment you can have a revision and hopefully enjoy the appearance you originally had in mind.

What we need to do is assess your face and understand what you had hoped to achieve.  We will need to look at why your surgery did not work out – whether it was from poor skill or communication about what results to expect. Only then can we advise whether your expectations are realistic and whether a revision will, ultimately, give you the results you’re looking for.  If a revision won’t be worthwhile, we’ll certainly let you know.  We appreciate that plastic surgery is a significant investment of time and money; and it can be traumatic to endure surgery only for it to leave you with disappointing results.

Results of original surgery have begun to reduce

The decision to have a facelift should be considered a life-long, irreversible decision.  That said, the results do not always last forever.  Over a period of time – usually ten years or more – the signs of ageing can return, and fine lines and wrinkles can reappear, or the face can begin to sag once more.  While most people are fortunate enough never to need revision surgery, it may be that the condition of your skin and your unique physiology means the results don’t last as long as you’d like.

If this is the case for you, then a revision facelift may be a consideration before the signs of ageing become too advanced.

There is no difference in how your surgeon carries out a normal facelift and a revision facelift.  Of course, they will take into account any scar tissue from your original surgery and do their best to minimise new scarring.

Of course, our surgeons are keen to ensure your results are as long-lasting as possible so will be able to advise you on how to recover well and look after your skin post-surgery.

The first step is to book an initial consultation with a member of our team.  At that meeting, your surgeon will assess your face and talk to you about what you’d like to achieve, and the best way to ensure your revision facelift enhances your life and enables you to live with renewed confidence and self-esteem.
