At Manchester Plastic Surgery we always aim to help you look your best. We’ve seen it time after time where patients have worked hard to change their body shape and achieve their weight loss goals, only to end up with another problem: loose saggy skin.
Invariably, with age and weight loss, the outside of the high buttock that is naturally rounded becomes slightly square as the tissues lose their spring. In extreme cases, the buttocks can lose all shape and definition, sagging towards the back of the thighs. All these problems can be improved with buttock lift surgery. A buttock lift is an extensive form of body contouring which aids in minimising the visibility of sagging or loose skin.
What’s involved in buttock lift surgery?
Buttock lift surgery involves creating an incision at the top of the buttocks where the underwear elastic usually sits. Sagging skin will then be removed from this line down to the mid-buttock area, and the skin which has sagged below the buttock crease will be lifted to meet the underwear line. Dissolving stitches are almost always used in this type of surgery, and following recovery, the scar will be well-hidden under the elastic of your underwear and will fade to its final appearance somewhere between 6 to 24 months after your treatment.
The operation will usually take two to three hours and you’ll stay in our state-of-the-art hospital for two nights afterwards, being well cared for by our team of specialists.
A time for change
Often, buttock lift surgery will be combined with other types of weight loss surgery such as abdominoplasty although it is common practice to separate weight loss surgeries on the front of the body from those on the back to aid healing.
What is the recovery process?
As with all plastic surgery, you will need to set aside some time to heal after your buttock lift. The usual recovery time is two to six weeks, depending on the level of activity you are looking to return to.
During the time following the procedure, you may have trouble bending forward for the first one to two weeks due to the tightness of the scar closure. Although in most cases this tightness will reduce over time, for the first few weeks after your buttock lift surgery, you may experience difficulty in completing a number of day-to-day tasks, so it is advisable that you have someone at home with you following your surgery. You should be able to exercise from 4 weeks post-surgery, though your ability to move will steadily improve as you get further into your recovery.
Aftercare
Our surgeons’ dedication to their patient’s satisfaction allows us to provide extensive aftercare. Mr James Murphy and Mr Adam Goodwin will review the progress of your weight loss surgery at one week, one month, three months and six months post-surgery, and your surgical site and scarring will be reviewed as many times as necessary. Our team of experts will always be on-hand to answer any questions you may have throughout your recovery process and beyond.
