What to expect from rhytidectomy (facelift)

Deciding to go ahead with rhytidectomy surgery is exciting as well as daunting – even though you want a facelift and feel confident you’ve made the right choice, it’s not unusual to have mixed feelings.

Though we support people day-in, and day-out, to have successful plastic surgery treatments, we appreciate that a clinical environment is unlikely to be familiar to you and that you’ll feel a level of anxiety or trepidation simply coming into a hospital environment.

Nervousness can arise simply with the thought of having a general anaesthetic, let alone the facelift procedure itself. If you’re at all anxious, it can be helpful simply to know you’re not alone, and that we do understand how you are likely to feel.

Of course, our experienced team wants you to enjoy the experience – you’re in the safest hands and your treatment will improve your quality of life by giving you back your confidence and enabling you to look and feel your best.

We’ll do everything we can to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible whilst you’re with us, and that you have a straight-forward recovery when you return home.

However, we know that providing you with the information you need about your procedure and the recovery process goes a long way to alleviate your fears. You can read all about what’s involved in a facelift treatment on the facelift pages of our website though your surgeon will talk you through this detail and more during your initial and follow-up consultations.

Knowing what to expect from rhytidectomy is half the battle. There should be no surprises when it comes to preparing for your surgery, going through your treatment and recovering afterwards!

Every patient is different so we will talk to you in as much detail as you wish about the way we’ll approach your specific surgery. Some patients like to know all the details, while others only want an overview.

It's important to emphasise that all questions are welcome. It’s often said that no question is a silly question, and we’d like to reinforce that view. Please do feel free to ask about any aspect of your treatment, preparation or recovery!

You’ll find that we give you as much time as you need to discuss your treatment, and you certainly won’t be hurried. After your treatment, you’ll be cared for by our experienced team who will be available to you even when you’ve returned home so that you can ask questions and get the specific information you need, when you need it, in between follow-up appointments.

Because our practice has been here for many years, and in that time we have supported hundreds of patients to enjoy successful facelift results, we’re sure you’ll find the experience as straight-forward as possible.

Our aim is to give you a good experience before your surgery; a comfortable and worry-free experience in hospital and a smooth recovery. We hope you look back and say to yourself: “I don’t know what all the worry was about!”
