Revision rhinoplasty may be required if you’re unhappy with the results of your original surgery. Clearly, it is best to choose an experienced plastic surgeon who will give you the results you desire the first time around. But if things didn’t go to plan or your results are not as you expected, then revision rhinoplasty is certainly possible.
It’s recognised that rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult treatments because of the need to maintain/improve nasal function whilst also making the nose the size and shape you have in mind.
Revision rhinoplasty can be even more challenging due to scar tissue from your original surgery and the need to use cartilage which would usually be sourced from the nose area but which may have been removed in the original surgery, meaning in revision surgery it has to be sourced from other areas of the body.
What is a deviated Septum?
The most common reason for revision rhinoplasty is what we term ‘deviation’ ie movement of the septum (tip of the nose) which not only alters the appearance of the nose but can cause obstruction too. In revision cases, septal cartilage is often not available due to its use in the original surgery, so it may be necessary to obtain cartilage from other areas of the body such as the ear. If tissue scarring within the nose is causing problems, it will be necessary to use skin grafts to reopen a distorted and/or narrowed nasal airway and, again, this will mean the use of skin from other parts of the body.
Is revision rhinoplasty worth it?
With careful planning by an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon, revision rhinoplasty can be successful. However, if we don’t think we can achieve your desired results, we’ll let you know how close we can get. It’s important to us that you are equipped with the knowledge you need to make an informed decision about whether surgery is right for you. We want happy clients who love their results, we certainly don’t want you to have to seek revision rhinoplasty in the future!
However, if you do want to revisit your rhinoplasty procedure, we can help. Rhinoplasty is a particular specialism of ours so you can come to us for revision rhinoplasty safe in the knowledge that if it’s possible to correct what you don’t like about your nose once and for all, you’re in the right place.
One of the reasons we are one of the busiest plastic surgery practices in the North West is that we take the time to truly understand what you want to achieve. The importance of this shared vision cannot be underestimated. Knowing exactly what you want your results to look like means your surgeon can tell you if your expectations are realistic and achievable.
