MPS Founder & Lead Surgeon Mr James Murphy To Step Down

Manchester Plastic Surgery founder and lead surgeon Mr James Murphy is to step down from his role.

Over the next 12 months, Mr Murphy will transition into retirement though the practice, now one of the busiest in the North West, will be taken forward by colleagues.

Consultant Surgeons Mr Chris Jones MBBS, BSc (Hons), FRCS (Plast) and Mr Ben Baker BMedSci BMBS MRCS FRCS (Plast) will continue to build Manchester Plastic Surgery and take it from strength-to-strength.  Mr Jones and Mr Baker have worked alongside Mr Murphy for some time and have the same ethos and commitment to continual professional development and the very highest standards in patient care.

The transition period means Mr Murphy will continue with the surgical practice, gradually phasing out his level of theatre time until all patient commitments have been fulfilled.

Anyone who has previously had surgery under Mr Murphy’s care and who is planning further treatment has been invited to schedule appointments as soon as possible.

Mr Murphy said: “Manchester Plastic Surgery has been at the centre of my life for some 20 years now and I’ve loved every minute of it.  It’s an established and respected practice which has grown through its reputation for the highest standards of patient care and this is a testament to the fantastic team that will continue to take it from strength-to-strength.

“It has been immensely enjoyable and satisfying to be able to help patients to feel better about themselves and go on to lead happier lives.  I will certainly miss surgical work but am going to make the most of the next few months, supporting my colleagues and patients.”

Mr Murphy graduated from medical school in 1992 and began his surgical training in the same year. In 1996 he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and 2001 was awarded the higher postgraduate degree of Master of Surgery (ChM) for research at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery, (FRCS (Plast)) in 2002.

Consultant Career

In 2004, Mr Murphy was appointed to the position of Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the prestigious Christie Hospital in Manchester.

He started in private practice at the same time and, in 2010, left the NHS to concentrate his energies on full time private practice.

Mr Murphy is one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgeons. He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and the United Kingdom Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (UKAAPS). His areas of specialisation are rhinoplasty, breast surgery and abdominoplasty.
